LEAD-BASED PAINT: ABOUT LEAD AND ITS EFFECTS

Lead-Based Paint was widely used in homes prior to 1978. Since then, a U.S. federal ban was placed on lead-based paint due to the significant health risks it poses, specifically when damaged or deteoriorating. According to epa.gov, “Deteriorating lead-based paint (peeling, chipping, chalking, cracking, damaged, or damp) is a hazard and needs immediate attention.” If the paint is damaged, lead can be airborne in the form of dust and thus easily be inhaled.

Children under the age of 7 are most susceptible to the effects of lead, but anyone can be affected. Some health effects due to the inhalation or ingestion of lead include:
